Donald Harlen Bever

Donald Harlen Bever, age 93, passed away on May 11, 2025. Born in Lake City, Michigan, he was the surviving youngest of six children.

In March 1951, Don married the love of his life, Elva (née Anderson). They shared 65 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 2016. Together, they raised their son, Robert (m. Jacqueline, née Niziolek). Don was a proud grandfather to Ryan and Tyler, who brought him endless joy.

A Korean War veteran, Don served his country with honor before dedicating 35 years of service to Des Plaines Community School District 62. He was a longtime resident of Des Plaines where he was known for his warm personality, quick wit, and gift for conversation.

For the past seven years, Don lived at the Green Oaks Senior Community in Libertyville, Illinois, close to his family. There, he formed many friendships, including his beloved friend, Carol.  Don had a way of making people smile with his humor and kindness.

Don’s warmth, humor, and generous spirit touched many lives. His legacy lives on in the laughter, stories, and love he shared with everyone he met.

A private service will be held for close family. A celebration of life for friends at the Green Oaks Senior Community will be announced at a later date.
