Jeremy R. Jacobsen, 51, of Marseilles, IL was peacefully called home surrounded by his loved ones on April 8, 2025. Jeremy was a devoted husband, dad, son, brother, grandson, nephew, son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, godfather, cousin and friend to many.
Jeremy was born in Waukon, IA to Don Jacobsen and Kathleen (Jacobsen) Kocher on April 4, 1974. Jeremy is survived by his wife Amy of 19 years and children Alex and Jocelyn. Mother and Stepdad Kathleen and Al Kocher. Brother Daniel Jacobsen (Marcel Gabitan), Grandmother Barbara Horns, along with many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Sisters Melisa Childers (Jeff), Jennifer Smock (Byron) and Cousin Kenny Jacobsen. Mother-in-law Debbie Gray. Brothers and Sister-in laws; Mike and Michelle Colletti, Sal and Tina Castro. Nieces and Nephews; Ashley and Jessica Childers, Maria Jacobsen, Arianna, Scarlett and Emma Castro, Michael and Giavanna Colletti and Godson Dominick Colletti.
Jeremy enjoyed growing up in NE Iowa. He loved going to Grandma and Grandpa Horns and helping on the farm. He also enjoyed catching fish at the cabin on the Mississippi, where there were always cousins and family to make memories with. Jeremy also loved visiting with his Grandma and Grandpa Jacobsen and talking about WWF and using their outhouse.
Jeremy's parents moved him and his brother to Marseilles, IL in August 1979. He attended Marseilles Grade School and he graduated High School from Ottawa Township High School in 1992. As a young adult he enjoyed taking his ATV on trail rides and had an insatiable need for speed.
Jeremy worked for Bill Walsh Automotive Group in Ottawa, IL for almost 30 years. He took great pride in his career and building relationships and gaining trust of many in the community. He continued to learn every aspect of the automotive industry and work his way up in the Automotive group. Working in this industry fueled his love for cars and helped him learn to do his own repairs, which came in handy when he needed to rebuild his favorite CJ-7. While working at Bill Walsh he met the love of his life, Amy.
Jeremy and Amy were married on September 2, 2006, in Marseilles, where they have lived since and raised their two children. Jeremy was a devoted husband and father. He was full of adventures, a great storyteller, protector and provider, the fixer of all things broken, a steady presence and an immovable rock for his family. He never missed a chance to celebrate his family, cheer on their accomplishments and offer advice and guidance. He always looked for an opportunity to teach his children life skills and be an unwavering example of character, strength, and kindness. Over the years they had many pets who all hold a place in his heart; Jack, Petey, Frank and Fred have eagerly waited for his return. Hank, Max, Sophie, Sally and Milo will miss him deeply.
Some of Jeremy's favorite pastimes were spending time in his garage working on one of his vehicles while jamming to his favorite bands. He spent many lazy weekend afternoons cruising around in his jeep with his family or tearing it up in the mudd. He and his family spent many summers at their favorite vacation destination, jumping the dunes in Silver Lake Sand Dunes in Michigan in his green sand rail. Jeremy was a man of many talents that led him to rebuilding his home with his wife and children along with family and friends. This sparked his interest in wood working and creating special pieces for his family. He also found a passion for firearms and really enjoyed target practice at his mom and stepdad's range.
Jeremy has been remembered as being an all-around great guy. He had a zest for life, loved sharing a good laugh, offering a helping hand, and taking on all tasks big and small. Jeremy had the determination and courage to face any challenge. When Jeremy was diagnosed with Cancer in 2020, we knew Cancer had met its match. Jeremy's optimistic mindset and the love and support of his family helped him charge through this very challenging time. His journey has been inspiring to others and has offered hope to many. His team of amazing doctors said he did the unthinkable. They mentioned several times the impression he had made on them, for his amazing strength, courage and response to all his treatments. His response always was, " I do it for my wife and kids" and " I have so much more I want to do".
Jeremy's faith in God gives us all peace and comfort knowing he is home with our Lord Savior. He is no longer in pain and has been restored to enjoy what our heavenly father has prepared for us all. Our dear Jeremy until we meet again, we will hold you close in our hearts and will keep your memory alive forever. We love you and miss you immensely.
Jeremy was preceded in death by his Brother Jim Jacobsen, Father Don Jacobsen, Grandmother and Grandfather Jacobsen, Grandfather Horns and many other family members.
