John A. Bakke

John A. Bakke, age 89, of Vernon Hills, Illinois, passed away on January 3, 2026. Throughout his life, John was known for his warm personality, which endeared him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be remembered for his kind heart, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and his deep love for his family and friends.

As a proud veteran of the Air Force, John served his country with honor, reflecting a deep commitment to his service throughout his life. He dedicated most of his professional career to the airline industry, a field that brought him great fulfillment and pride.

John had a multitude of interests that enriched his life. He was an avid reader with a keen passion for history, particularly the Civil War, and was known to be a devoted baseball fan. His enthusiasm extended to airplanes and cars, hobbies that showcased his inquisitive nature and passion for learning.

John is survived by his beloved spouse, Jenet Bakke nee Hiller, and their children, Jill (Walter Pancewicz) Bakke, Joyce (Houman) Varzandeh, and James (Charlene) Bakke. He also took immense joy in his role as a grandparent to Samantha, Katharine, Victoria, Sam, Nick, and Nicholas, and cherished the moments spent with his great-grandchild, Noah. His siblings, Barbara (the late Richard) Nord and Robert Bakke, along with many nieces and nephews, will also carry his memory forward.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Emma Bakke. His legacy of laughter, warmth, and love will continue to resonate within the hearts of his family and friends, ensuring that his spirit will live on through the cherished memories they hold dear.

Services & Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Trefoldighed Lutheran Church at 18674 Trefoldighed Rd, Battle Lake, MN 56515. Please check back for the date and time of services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to International Myeloma Foundation in John's name. The family asks for thoughts and prayers during this time.
