Obituary

Melissa Mulligan was born on Sunday July 24th, 1983, to Sonja and Wayne Mulligan at Mercy Hospital in Chicago Illinois. Melissa was a very imaginative child with a full and fun childhood growing up with her 5 brothers and various circles of friends. After High school Melissa attended Collage of Dupage in the early 2000s pursuing passions for Horticulture, Art, and creative writing. Melissa met her husband John, at the Jewel Osco where they fell in love. Over the years as their love grew, they got married and begun their life together providing strength and support for one another. Melissa believed in supporting the community and did so in many ways. Melissa was an active member of her Jehovah witness congregation spreading Jehovah word in many communities around the Chicago's many suburbs. She joined Transportation Security Administration during the Covid pandemic to help in a time of need. Shortly after, Melissa left the TSA was when she fell ill and was diagnosed with cancer.

On Friday June 12th, 2026, after a fierce but short battle with cancer, Melissa Mulligan-Maki passed away at Integrated palliative and hospice in Libertyville, Illinois. Melissa was survived by her loving husband John Maki and their rescue cats Rishie and Thistle patch, her siblings Constantine, David, Dan, Matt, and Tim, her parents Sonja and Wayne. Melissa continues live on in all the lives she has touched leaving a little bit of joy with us all.

In regard to Melissa's final wishes, her ashes will be used to help reconstruct a reef so that even in death she may still help to make this world just a little bit better than the way she found it.
