Wayne J.
Jurgens
Sep 8, 1933 — Aug 24, 2026
Vernon Hills, Illinois
Wayne Jurgens, 92, of Vernon Hills, Illinois, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2026. A man of quiet strength, steady hands, and deep devotion to his family, Wayne lived a full and meaningful life spanning over nine decades.
Born on September 8, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of the late Frederick and Marie Jurgens. Growing up in a large family, Wayne developed a lifelong appreciation for hard work, family, and community. After serving in the United States Army, Wayne married Marie Ristich in 1958.
Professionally and personally, Wayne was a man of many talents and passions. Wayne moved the family north to Mundelein where he became an avid gardener, first at home and later at community garden plots. He was an enthusiastic volunteer willing to freely give his time to nearly anyone in need which led to becoming a supportive coach of youth sports especially fast-pitch girls’ softball. Wayne retired from “Ma” Bell after 38 years with perfect attendance. In his well-earned retirement he became a skilled woodworker, bowl turner and pen maker. He found joy and satisfaction in crafting pieces which decorated family rooms, bedrooms and basements for family and friends alike. He and Marie also embraced the opportunity to travel, seeing new places and creating wonderful memories making it to six of the seven continents.
Wayne and Marie had four children together - Leslie Jurgens, Duane (Nicole) Jurgens, Paul (Mary) Jurgens, and Susan (Ken Leibman) Wings. Grandfather of Erika, Kevin (Erin), Jamie (Nate), James, Danny, Reese, Michael (Ellen), Elizabeth, Sarah (Anthony), Christine and Nathan. Great grandfather of Nathan, Scarlett, Nolan, Levi, Malcom and Amelia. Dear brother Glenn Jurgens. He was preceded in death by loving parents, his loving wife of 66 years Marie "Milena" Jurgens, his dear siblings Frederick, Donald, Robert, Merrill, Dorothy, Roland, twin sisters Audrey & Adele, Lowell and Richard Jurgens.
A Celebration of Life is being planned. Please check back for updated information.
"He will be remembered always as a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose warmth and wisdom will live on in our hearts."
