Daniel A. Catanzaro

Danny Catanzaro, born June 23rd 1954, to the late Daniel and Lillian nee Allen Catanzaro, died August 5th 2024 in Vernon Hills, IL after a lengthy illness.  He was a devoted son, husband, father, brother, nephew, uncle, and friend.

Danny played baseball and football with the Binney Bears and Hoyt Bruins.  He moved onto Greenwich High School where he played 2nd base for the baseball team and quarterback for the ’70 and ’71 football teams.  He set the season record for touchdowns during the 1971 season, and he always said it would take a Hall of Famer like Steve Young to surpass him.

After graduating in 1972, Danny enrolled at Tabor Academy for a post-grad year.  While there, he played football, basketball, and baseball.  Following Tabor, Danny enrolled at Lake Forest College in suburban Chicago.  At LFC Danny played four years of varsity football as well as baseball.

Danny stayed in suburban Chicago, eventually raising his family in Vernon Hills.  Upon moving to Vernon Hills, he became an active member of St. Mary of Vernon where he served as an usher.  Although Danny was a successful State Farm Agent, he made his mark in youth coaching.  He coached baseball for 14 years, basketball for 8 years, and football for 10 years.  After all his sons entered high school, he was the first commissioner of the Vernon Hills Cougar Youth Athletic Association football program, and a board member from 2005-2009.

Danny is survived by his loving wife Kathleen nee Taylor. Beloved sons Danny Mark (Nellie), Matthew, and Andrew (Julie). Cherished grandchildren Bella, Thomas and Mark. Dear brothers Harry (Patty) and Peter (Carla). Fond uncle to many nieces and nephews.

There will be two services for Danny in Vernon Hills, IL and Greenwich, CT.  The Vernon Hills service will be at St. Mary of Vernon Catholic Church on September 23rd with a Visitation at 9:30am and Mass at 10:30am.  The Greenwich service will be at Sacred Heart Church on October 14th at 10:00am.  Burial will be at the family plot in Greenwich.
